SONG OF THE WEEK:

Our first TOP song of the week is an instrumental tune called "Mahdi (The Expected One).  This song is from the very rare, out of print album, "Lights Out: San Francisco".  The record was produced in 1972 by VOCO, and Dusty Street, a DJ from KSAN radio. Many Bay Area artists are featured.

While technically not a Tower of Power release, one look at the lineup of musicians will tell you who this is.  There was a problem with Warner Brothers that necessitated the "Tower of Power" name on the rear cover to be obscured by black tape.  If you look at the cover above, the first name listed was Tower of Power, just to the left of Lydia Pence.

The album has 4 songs from Tower of Power, "Mahdi", our featured song, (Greg Adams and Skip Mesquite), Cleo's Back (Willie Woods),  "Loves To Do It" (Kupka, Castillo, and Garibaldi), and "Dead" (M. Dillard, J. Hoffman).  Dead features the same lineup as "Mahdi" but also includes Raul Matute on organ, and Pat O'Hara on trombone.

Enjoy "Mahdi (The Expected One)"
